Dream of Glory

Dream of Glory logoDream of Glory nominees continue to impress across the province, and have certainly shaken up the rankings going into this year’s Dream Of Glory Trot Eliminations.

We take a look at an updated top 10 rankings here:

1. Highland Mowgli - Trainer: Amanda Fine
Owners: Amanda M Fine, Guelph ON, Highland Thoroughbred Farm, Inglewood ON

Highland Mowgli moves to our top spot in the Dream Of Glory top 10 rankings after a jaw dropping 1:54.2 track record at Hiawatha Horse Park in Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots action. This performance came after 2 strong second place finishes at Woodbine Mohawk Park. This 3-year-old Archangel colt is getting better and better each start, and if his high speed can translate to the half-mile oval, he will be tough to beat.

2. Publicity Seeker - Trainer: Steve Bossence
Owners: Richard J Thompson, London ON, Stephen E Bossence, London ON, Derek M Reid, Etobicoke ON

Publicity Seeker kicked off his Ontario Sires Stakes Gold campaign on July 1st and led the majority of the mile before finishing second to Logan Park. This 3-year-old Muscle Mass gelding trotted the mile in 1:54 in only his second start of the year. With more experience, Publicity Seeker will be a force to be reckoned with when they line up behind the gate for the Dream of Glory Eliminations.

3. Sweet Soul David - Trainer: Patrick Lang
Owners: Patrick T Lang, Ancaster ON, Dewitt Stables, Little Britain ON, Paul W Kleinpaste, Orangeville ON, Garth S Bechtel, Meaford ON

After a stint states side, Sweet Soul David returned home to trainer Patrick Lang for a start in OSS grassroots action. Sweet Soul David did not disappoint, posting a lifetime best of 1:56.3 at Hiawatha Horse Park. With his half-mile ability, Sweet Soul David will look to sweep the Hanover Raceway stake double (Balanced Image Trot and Dream of Glory Trot).

The Dream of Glory Final is Hanover Raceway’s Crown Jewel event.  Named in honour of the late great Hall of Fame stallion of the same name, who as a sire was a elite producer of successful race horses.

Dream of Glory was also an excellent race horse in his era, being named the USTA champion at ages 3, 4 and 5.  His owner however failed to enter him into some of the sport's biggest stakes that could have proven his elite ability on the track, including the Hambletonian and the Kentucky Futurity, with his owner saying he was more focussed on his Dairy business than his excellent Standardbred.

Regardless, Dream of Glory went on to a prestigious Stud career with Armstrong Brothers of Ontario and produced thousands of off-spring that earned over 48 million dollars in purse money and at last count included 144 winners of at least one hundred thousand dollars.  Dream of Glory died in 1992 at the age of 21.

Hanover Raceway pays tribute to the late stallion with its 3-year-old stake race, which is held annually on the August Civic Holiday weekend.

Further details will be update on this page, as things are added to this event.  Stay tuned and plan to attend one of Ontario Harness Racing's iconic race nights!
