Henry Enjoying another Successful Year in the Bike |
A veteran local star finds himself among the nation's elite. |
Perennially at the top of the Hanover Raceway driving ranks, Trevor Henry is back among the leaders in the national standings this year. As of June 11th, Henry found himself in the top ten in all three major statistical categories, those being wins, earnings and universal rating. This is not unfamiliar territory for the Arthur native and former Lampman Cup winner as top Ontario Sires Stakes driver in 1996 and 2007.
Henry has 190 wins in 2012, which is just over 100 away from his entire 2011 campaign mark. Henry finished outside the top ten in Canada last year with 291 wins, but his pace this year has him second only to Billy Davis Jr, only Henry has far fewer starts. Also, after a strong night at Hanover Raceway’s first Ontario Sires Stakes action of 2012, Henry moved into the top ten in purse earnings as he has bankrolled $1.2 million at the midway point of the year. He also boasts a .369 UDR, which is good enough for fourth in the country, and is up around 70 points from his 2011 season stats.
Saturday night in Hanover, Henry picked up his tenth and eleventh wins of the Hanover meet with two record-setting performances. He drove Machleen and Sauble Claire to matching 1:54.4 miles to set and equal the new track record for three-year old pacing fillies. He leads the way in the win column in Hanover this year, after a 2011 season that saw his lowest win total at the Grey County track in years with just 21 trips to the winner’s circle. Henry has been the leading dash winning driver at Hanover Raceway nine times in his career, most recently in 2010. It should be noted that Henry missed a lot of the season last year, electing to drive at Grand River Raceway on most Wednesday nights instead of in Hanover. This year, Hanover switches to Thursday night racing in July and August which would certainly help boost Henry’s win totals should he choose to make regular appearances on the Thursday night cards.
Much has been made of the rising young talent at Hanover Raceway this season, but the 41-year old reinsman is certainly showing his class this season and cementing himself as the top driver on the scene.
